The Anti-Roll Bar

Regular readers will recall that Brian recently went for his MOT test. He passed. This fact is vital to both the beginning and end of this post!

In August we will have owned Brian for 12 months. (I feel a small celebration will be in order!) but in all that time we had never realised that he had no anti-roll bar.

As soon as we realised we needed one, we picked him one up at Big Bang from CNC, and read up the Haynes manual. After all, how hard could this be? The bushes go on the bar, the bolt goes through the mounting, and the clamp goes over the bush and is squeezed up until the plate slips on to hold it in place.

Easy!

Five hours of lying under a van over two nights later, and we booked him in to have it done.

It is a swine of a job to do with so little clearance.

We took him to Paul-the-garage-man on Saturday morning for what was, we were told "honestly a quick job."

Brian went up on the lift. Paul went underneath. The bushes went onto the bar and the bar was bolted on through the mounting.

The clamps were put over the top and squeezed together.

The plate was tapped into place to hold it all together and.....

Da-daaaaa! We have a complete anti-roll bar!

Obviously Paul went back over the bolts and checked, tightened and loctit-ed them, but in essence it was "a quick job, honest!" and much easier with a lift! We just didn't have the room underneath at home to do the job. (So I'm thinking about a pit in the new garage......)

However, regular readers will also know that Brian rarely lets us do a job to completion with out making us aware of something else he'd like done.

This is the drag link. This has more play in it than a 26hr Rugby World Record Attempt (of which more later!), and so Paul is getting one in, ready for another quick Saturday morning job!

We're also going to get a rear anti-roll bar fitted. The front made a massive difference - Brian is enjoyably drivable again - and so we're having the back done.

It's much easier to do stuff when he's here..........

Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone so don't mock the spelling and I'll be back later to sort the layout!
